A little more about Tory
If you’ve ever had the pleasure of taking in a musical performance or supper theatre show in Durban, you’ve probably seen Tory Du Plessis in action. As a highly skilled and well-respected all-rounder on the Durban music scene, Tory has been gracing the stage since the tender age of eighteen. As a young keyboardist, her natural flair for music and eager attitude made her a regular, popular choice for venues looking to place esteemed artists on to their stages. Tory quickly built up a solid resumè that included performances at the Playhouse Cellar, Dockyard and Barnyard Theatres.
After graduating from the University of KwaZulu-Natal with an Honours degree in Music, Tory dove into a wide range of opportunities and ventures, gaining extensive experience in performing, directing, teaching and composing. Tory was also a founding member of Take Five, a Durban collaborative of maestros who were recently nominated for the best musical act award at the Durban Theatre Awards.
As an established musician with a keen eye for uncovering and nurturing talent, Tory has played an integral role as music teacher and mentor to the three consecutive winners of the prestigious ACT DALRO Nedbank scholarship. This is an annual, national competition that awards the winner a full three-year performing arts scholarship at the university of their choice.
Having honed her craft and ignited her passion for working with young individuals, choirs and having run school music departments for 15 years, Tory now focusses her attention on Cherry Blossom Music, where she lives out her passion to develop and nurture up-and-coming talent. Her private teaching studios in Durban and Johannesburg are celebrated for their warm, inclusive environments and quality teachers, where gifts can flourish.
Cherry Blossom Music celebrated 8 years of excellence in June 2023.
